To understand water bloating or edema, one must first seek to find out more about water itself and the key role it plays. Water is a substance that is enormously important to our health and well being. This is because it has a vital role to play in the proper functioning of our bodies. As a matter of fact water is a vital component of many of the key parts of our bodies cells, tissues, and of course the blood itself.

But the water we take in doesn't just stay in our bodies. As we take in water, our bodies put it to good use. It helps transport nutrients from our digestive tracts all throughout the body, and also helps move waste products from cells to the colon. Plus, it helps our bodies flush these waste products out as well. As we take in water, we also give it out it is excreted in our urine and feces, through our skin as sweat, and even as we exhale in the form of water vapor.

In addition, and in relation to its various functions, the amount of water that a person's body contains may not be standard; it can vary during certain times and certain circumstances. That said, though, there are certain absolute levels of water saturation; the lower limit is the absolute minimum needed for health, and the upper limit is the absolute maximum. The body's inbuilt water maintenance mechanisms are intended to help ensure that the levels of water in one's body fall comfortably within these limits.

However, sometimes, and for various reasons, the various mechanisms that help our bodies maintain ideal water levels can be disrupted. When this occurs, either dehydration or water-related bloating can result.

Of course not all bloating is water related. Bloating can also happen because of poor eating habits, stress, or as the unfortunate side effect of medicines like Valium, for instance. But water bloating, as can be understood based on the discussion regarding the importance of water, is also a major problem even though it is caused by "only water".

To deal with bloating, one solution is to head to a doctor or drugstore and purchase some substances that can relieve bloating. Take note that many of these substances can have serious side effects, so you should only take them when supervised by healthcare professionals. Some medicines that can help relieve water bloating are antacids, which neutralize excess stomach acidity; sodium bicarbonate; calcium carbonate; and Pepto-Bismol. Or there are also some natural remedies that can also help relieve bloating.

A diet and lifestyle change can also be quite helpful. If sodas and other drinks are part and parcel of your daily diet, try to reduce or eliminate their consumption altogether. Also try exercising more to increase sweat rates and drinking diuretic substances such as hot tea these drinks will help increase your rate of urination, helping drain the unwanted water from your body.
